Lands End + Manus Lux Tattoo + Chez Maman COVID Elopement » San Francisco, California by Vivian Chen

After waiting exactly a year to reschedule their elopement, Shannon and Matt were finally able to have the tiny celebration they originally planned on April 20, 2021. The day started by getting ready together at their home and a quick first look in their backyard. We then headed over to Lands End for their ceremony. In front of their families, Shannon and Matt exchanged tearful vows and high fives overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. After the short and sweet (and windy!) ceremony, Shannon and Matt met up with their tattoo artist, Nakona at Manus Lux Tattoo. Both of them have Nakona’s work on their bodies so it only seemed fitting that they both get wedding ring tattoos from their favorite artist. Matt works with his hands so a traditional wedding ring wasn’t very practical. Nakona (who is also my tattoo artist and an all around lovely human being) took his time creating complimentary designs for their ring fingers and set to work in his beautifully remodeled shop. After the session, we headed over to Potrero Hill for the classic city skyline portraits before joining their families for a delicious dinner reception at Chez Maman. Not one for traditions, I absolutely adored capturing Shannon and Matt’s uniquely San Francisco celebration and spending time with our mutual friend, Nakona.

Lands End Labyrinth COVID Elopement » San Francisco, California by Vivian Chen

Emily and Akshai knew they didn’t want their original wedding date to pass by without some sort of celebration. In honor of the day, they invited their immediate families and a few close friends for quick ceremony at the Labyrinth at Lands End in San Francisco. What normally is often a cold and foggy time of year, this June afternoon was sunny, warm and very windy. After a brief hike over to the cliff, we found a spot for their ceremony overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands. Their close friend officiated while everyone, including their pup, Jasper watched on with excitement. After the ring exchange and kiss, there was more celebrating with throwing rose petals which promptly blew away in the high coastal winds. We snapped a few more portraits along the cliff before hiking back home. It wasn’t the day they had originally planned but it was just as special.

North Beach + Lands End Engagement Session » San Francisco, California by Vivian Chen

Jen and Joe chose three locations for their evening engagement session. We started the shoot at one of my favorite intersections in North Beach before heading over to Ina Coolbrith Park which features gorgeous spring blooms and a stunning view of San Francisco. Afterwards, we booked it over to Lands End to catch the last remaining rays of sunset between the cypress trees and cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean.

San Francisco Botanical Garden, Lands End & Wood Line Engagement Session » San Francisco by Vivian Chen

Shuang and Luke have traveled the world together and got engaged in Santorini last year. Wanting to keep it simple, they decided on a small intimate dinner party wedding later this year. But to celebrate and mark the occasion, they reached out to me for an extended engagement session in San Francisco. For their shoot, we started off at the San Francisco Botanical Garden before walking the cliffs at Lands End. As the fog started rolling in, we wrapped up the shoot in the Presidio at Andy Goldsworthys’ Wood Line.

Winter Sunset Lands End + Sutro Baths Engagement Session » San Francisco, California by Vivian Chen

Katie and Jack are planning to get married on the East Coast but wanted an engagement session that reflected where their relationship blossomed. On a cool San Francisco evening, I met up with Katie and Jack at Lands End for their shoot. The sunlight shone through the cypress trees as we explored the area before heading down to the Sutro Baths ruins down by the water where we snapped more portraits among the crashing waves.

Autumn Sunset Sutro Baths Engagement Session » San Francisco, California by Vivian Chen

Zelin and Yitian are getting married in China but they fell in love in San Francisco and wanted to have an engagement session in their favorite spot in the city. Lands End and the ruins of Sutro Baths combines all the beauty of the California coast so we headed there for a gorgeous autumn engagement session.

A Foggy Grey Lands End Engagement Session by Vivian Chen

Debbie and Angela chose the iconic Lands End and Sutro Baths for their San Francisco engagement session. As it's one of my favorite places for portraits, they fell in love the ruins and the grand rock formations all around. Typical to San Francisco, it was windy and cloudy the day of our shoot. These two took it in stride, especially since the cooler weather meant we didn't have to fight tons of tourists to get the famous shot along the ruins. I can't wait for their wedding in the fall!

Lands End + Sutro Baths Winter Sunset Engagement Session by Vivian Chen

Kathleen and Ben met in college and have been inseparable for the past 10 years. Ben proposed to Kathleen on the winter solstice in Japantown which was the site of one of their first dates. It was a cute proposal that was captured all on camera by a group of teenage girls who offered to take their photos. Ben told me he always dreamed about what type of woman he would marry and when he met Kathleen, he just knew. They love the look of the California coast so we headed over to San Francisco's Lands End and Sutro Baths for a beautiful sunset engagement session. I can't wait for their wedding in a few weeks!

Sunny Afternoon Lands End & Sutro Baths Engagement Session by Vivian Chen

Stacy and Emanuel love going to the beach and being near the water so choosing to do their engagement session at Lands End in San Francisco seemed like the perfect location. We spent a rare warm and sunny San Francisco afternoon wandering between the cypress trees and rocky cliffs before wrapping up the shoot on the iconic ruins.
