Rainy Waterfall Lodge Wedding » Ben Lomond, California

Despite a very wet start to their day, the rain clouds cleared just in time for Kass and Mike's vows in the misty, magical redwood forests the Waterfall Lodge in Ben Lomond. While the forecast remained stubbornly wet throughout the morning, everyone stayed dry and warm as Kass got ready inside her cabin. Hiding under the eaves we quickly snapped some group portraits before everyone ducked away as guests slowly arrived to huddle under umbrellas and temporary tents, waiting patiently for the storm to pass. In a stroke of perfect timing, the rain stopped before the ceremony, allowing Kass and Mike’s good friend to officiate their vows beneath the towering redwoods in that ethereal, post-rain atmosphere. After the ceremony, guests headed down to the lodge for cocktails and appetizers while Kass and Mike hung back for some dreamy redwood portraits. We walked slowly down towards the Lodge, making our way through the misty forest while stopping here and there before joining their celebration. The evening unfolded with a delicious paella dinner that brought everyone together, followed by an unforgettable EDM dance party DJed by their good friend that infused the woodland setting with Burning Man energy and even featured the Australian drinking ritual known as "the shoey" (a nod to Kass’s family heritage). Just when guests thought the night couldn't get any better, Kass and Mike surprised everyone with late-night pizza as they danced into the evening. Rainy days in the redwoods hold a special place in my heart, and Kass and Mike embraced the weather with such grace, proving that sometimes the most magical moments happen when you let go and trust the day to unfold exactly as it should.
