Priscilla and Marie came into their wedding day with a clear vision and the follow-through to match. Their SmogShoppe wedding in Los Angeles was a tropical disco from start to finish, a theme that came to them at a Jacob Collier concert when a single spotlight hit a disco ball and scattered light across the room. They looked at each other and knew.
The two day tropical celebration started with a welcome dinner at the Jamaica Bay Inn where they invited the guests to participate in several games to see who knew the couple the best. The winner would receive a dinner outing with the couple, true to their love of hospitality and quality time. On their wedding day, Priscilla and Marie got ready separately before sharing a first look in their stunning outfits outside their hotel. Afterwards, we all headed over to the Smogshoppe where its palm trees and open air layout gave them the lush, plant-filled backdrop they had been looking for, and the freedom to bring in their own vendors meant every detail could be exactly theirs. They sourced and hand-strung an iridescent bead curtain themselves so guests would feel like they were stepping into a completely different world the moment they arrived. The welcome drink was a Vin d'Orange they have been brewing together every year since they started dating. Instead of wedding favors, they printed a photo of themselves with each guest from different moments in their lives and wrote a note on the back by hand.
Priscilla walked down the aisle in a dress that felt right from the moment she found it, while Marie shimmied in wearing a custom jumpsuit and cape with a phoenix design honoring her Vietnamese heritage, both changing into a second look midway through the reception. No cake, by choice: a Hawaiian shave ice truck handled dessert in the LA heat, and DJ Dazzler kept the dance floor moving through to the last song. Priscilla and Marie described their wedding as the coming out party they never had, a celebration of two queer women of color living fully and in the open, surrounded by every person who mattered.
